How much room your plan gives your photos, and how to see what you use

Every He.art account comes with a photo library on Heart Photos, and every plan says how much it can hold. On Oct 31, 2026, those amounts changed. This post sets out the new numbers, what counts toward them, and how to see where you stand, so nothing about your library comes as a surprise.

What each plan holds

As of Oct 31, 2026, the pricing page gives each plan this much room for photos:

Plan Price a month Room for photos
Free $0 5 GB, about 1,250 photos
Starter $0.99 10 GB, about 2,500 photos
Premium $9.99 200 GB, about 50,000 photos
Max $99.99 10 TB, about 2.5 million photos

The photo counts are the pricing page's own rough guide, at about 4 MB a photo. Yours will vary with your camera and your file types.

If you were already over your new amount, nothing you keep is touched. No photo is deleted or moved. The limit only applies to what you add next.

What counts

Your library counts the originals of every photo you own: the files you uploaded, the frames you saved from a video, and the edits you kept. A few details work in your favor:

  • Your originals are counted as Heart Photos stores them. Where a JPEG XL copy is smaller and gives back exactly the same file, that copy is what we keep, and what we count. When you download, you still get your original JPEG, byte for byte. On the 40 photos we measured for the Heart Photos blog, lossless JPEG XL came to 20% less in total than the JPEGs it stood for.
  • One file is counted once. When several of your photos share the same original, such as moments that use the same image, that file counts one time, not once per photo.
  • Images you draw in Photo studio are never refused. Their credits are spent before the image exists, so a new drawing is always kept, even when your library is full.

One thing counts that you might not expect: the Trash. A photo in the Trash still takes its room until you empty the Trash, so that is the first place to look when you need space.

See where you stand

Open Studio and look under Your library. The first tile reads Your photos take, with your total, your plan's amount ("of 5 GB on Free", for example) and a bar that fills as you go. The tiles beside it show how many photos you have, how many are public, unlisted or private, and how many are in the Trash.

As you near the limit

Heart Photos tells you before it stops you:

  1. Past 80%, an upload's answer says how full you are, in words like "Your library is 86% full: 4.3 GB of 5 GB on Free." You see that once a visit, with a See plans link. Studio's tile says Nearly full under its bar.
  2. At the limit, a new upload, a frame saved as a photo or a kept edit is refused before a byte of it is stored, with the message "Your library is full", how much you use, and your plan. This is the same whether you add the photo on the site, through the Heart Photos extension, or through the API.

To make room, delete photos you no longer need and empty the Trash, or move up a plan.

Sharing a plan shares the room too

Premium and Max can be shared: with five other people on Premium and ten on Max. Each person you share with gets the plan's full amount for their own library, not a slice of yours. Premium also starts with seven days free, with no card needed.

Also new: the blog in the Heart Photos header

Heart Photos now has a Blog link in its header, just before Pricing, so its own blog is one press away from the wall.

Try it

Open Studio to see how much room your photos take today. Then open He.art, go to Photo studio, and make an image to fill some of it.
